Our good friend Dawn invited us to go see a short movie her long time acquaintance had written and starred in. We knew nothing more about the movie than the name: Fucking Bunnies. It was screened at a place called The Projector, known for its high prices and hipster setting. I had never been there, John had but in another part of the building.
The restaurant was a couple of blocks from where we were standing. We started walking in the heat. Though Singapore is a metropolis, it is not as big as one might think. Maps makes it look bigger, but it is not. It should have taken us twenty to thirty minutes to get there, but we got lost and only arrived an hour later. It was difficult to find, which made the food so much better. Finally we had our long missed chicken. We used to order it home, but the recently stopped delivering to our adress. So sad.
Slowly we walked towards The Projector. On the way there we passed by Arab Street. John wanted to go look at pretty lamps so we strolled up and down the streets of the only area in Singapore which feels like abroad. The lamps were expensive and he found none with the orange colour he wanted. I needed something to drink. The small store we passed by only took cash, so instead we sat down in small cafe nearby. John did not want anything, but I had a cold smoothie made of avocado with gula melaka also known as palm sugar.
We met Dawn and her friend at The Projector by five. Ash was also coming but running a bit late. Upstairs there were a surprising amount of people. John and I had no pre-ordered tickets and had to buy some, but they only took cash so we loaned S$22 from Dawn. The movie was 17 minutes long. Ash joined us, Dawn bought a drink and we all were shuffled inside the small auditorium.
Fucking Bunnies was about a man in Finland, living a normal life with his wife when new neighbours moved in next door. They were a satan worshipping sex cult and he could not cope. He tried to talk to the other residents, trying to get them on his side. It did not work, nobody else seemed to care. Though the guy had obvious good reasons to be sceptical, the moral of the story seemed to be everyone is different, lets all try and get along. Apart from the fact that the strange cult's leader was pushing himself into his private space and also, in the end, made him drink his semen.
The movies was funny, very Finnish and voiced some of typical Scandinavian concerns. I did not think the humour would work in Singapore, but there were a lot of laughs through out the whole movie. Since we had only bought tickets for one movie we had to leave afterwards. Dawn and her friend stayed for another movie, while John, Ash and I headed outside. We had loose plans of having dinner, but we did not know when the second movie would end. The three of us ended up looking for a good place for a beer. First one had a Happy Hour promotion with two beers for S$10, but it turned out not to be true. We walked away, ending up in a small, crowded place in the middle of a street with many other small restaurants. There we could get two large pints for the price of one, along with some skewers from the grill.
We drank and talked for a while before I felt that I needed to get home. I started to feel a bit ill and wanted to lie down in the sofa for a while. Ash went with us a couple of stations on the tube, before we split and both parties headed home. While John made a small dinner, I had salad and he made some noodles, I watched the ending of BFG. It was not a very good movie after all, I am a bit disappointed. It was a lot of movies today, but now I am done. I will play some games with John before bed.
