B-Day BBQ

One of John's colleagues turned 32 recently. John was invited to his birthday barbecue and I came along as his plus one. Some of the other guests I knew from previous gatherings and such, but most were complete strangers.

I thought, since it was a birthday, that I would curl my hair and dress for the occasion. Of course, by the time we arrived at the condo my curls had all gone straight from the humidity in Singapore. I should have known. It was a bit sad, I had really put some effort into the hair and it all went away before anyone could see it. Oh well...

John was clever and said we should bring something to eat. Everyone seemed to contribute with something, not only food. There was a lot of it though: small sandwiches, pasta salad, chicken and we had bought two fine-looking pork tenderloins which we had marinaded all day. John took care of the meat and even made sure that the abandoned sausages on the grill were good to eat.

I had difficulties socialising, being introvert and everyone seemed to know everyone except me (and a few other plus ones) so I stayed close to John. We did play a game with Jesse and James called Genital Jousting where each player was literally a set of male genitals. It was surprisingly fun!

When the sun had gone down and everyone had eaten, a cake was brought out and we all sang to the birthday-boy. It was a chocolate macron cake, so unfortunately I did not have any. I am not a fan of chocolate in cakes and ice cream, but I do love it in bars and as a hot drink. After cake some people jumped into the pool, others played a card game, John and I talked with Elson about their trip to Batam and life in general.

Close to midnight the lights of the barbecue pit turned off, no one knew how to turn them back on. It was probably because the condominium wanted us to get out of there and quit bothering the residents. Instead the small group still there headed up to the roof where we sat in a large circle talking.

We did not stay long after that. Jesse and her husband were going home and since we live near each other we decided to share the cab. In the car we made plans for Friday, board games at our place! Finally. Feels like forever since I played some good old board games. I am looking forward to it.
