You see what we saw

Yesterday we spent many hours sightseeing some parts of Marina Bay. Much like the post "New sights and new computer" we took the MRT to Bayfront but this time we heard very loud music. The speakers were bad and not synchronised so it echoed strangely over the moderately crowded festival area but also across a busy highway. Apparently it was the Ultra Music Festival, something I had never heard about before.

We moved away from the bad speaker setup and entered the Gardens by the Bay. Annika and Thomas are art-lovers and so they stopped by the fountain with the dragonflies for a few minutes. Took photos at the designated spot marked by a literal spot with the text "Best Photo Spot". Then crossed the newly (for John and me) decorated bridge into the gardens.

Sauntered through the tree area, as seen on the photo below, while enjoying the decorations for another event we have never heard about. I took the lead, being the most hungry person in our group, and steered us in the right direction for Satay by the Bay. Once there, after a short sidetrack when the parents wanted to stand close to the water, we ordered fruit and satay. Drank a lot of lime juice because we were thirsty and it was hot!

When finished we had more energy to walk around the humid little forest. Eventually we had enough, and steered ourselves towards the decorated bridge. Across, instead of walking down to the dragonflies, we took the escalator up to another bridge. My favourite bridge in Singapore. It goes through that huge hotel, Marina Bay Sands, with three tall buildings and the boat on top; the only thing that comes to mind when mentioning the country (apart from the Merlion).

We enjoyed the inside view and then exited on the other side. Out there we found groups of young adults drinking, probably getting ready (drunk) for the festival. We took place by the railing and watched the awkwardly dancing crowd behind the even more awkwardly performed music. John said something very clever though. "I would not be dancing too if I were at a festival in this heat."

We then went downstairs into the glamours mall that belongs to the hotel called The Shoppes at Marina Bay Sands. It is over-pompous and it looks expensive. Imagine the most expensive and well-known stores with the most luxurious architecture. There is a small artificial river in which you can enjoy a short boat ride, but you will never leave the mall. It ends in a circular fountain which has a sort of lens above it. From ground level, just outside the mall, you can stand and look down into it and also throw coins there. Strange things these rich people enjoy.

After leaving the mall we sat enjoying the view until we noticed it was too hot to sit there. We walked in the shadows to an entrance to the underground, also mentioned in the previous post. Lost ourselves down there, eventually following the signs that lead us to the MRT station that took us home.
